It’s fun to share source code, but places like Google Code want to be nazis and go and take projects down without source code.

@KRKahn87
open-source bullshit?
Make money?
If you are from 1987, please grow up first and come back over a couple of years,….

He’s not telling you to quit your job. Even if you’re a codewhore for a company, you may still have fun with codelove in your spare time.
zadigjaja on Tue, 23rd Mar 2010 4:54 pm
Look you ask a question about making money and replied that one. We are not making profit from documentation and support only. I do image analysis segmentation and etc and I actually did not support any software in the sense that most people think. I am not saying that open source necessarily means better software, just wanted to point out that we DO make money. If this is going to make you happier I do not like this guy that much either. I wish he stopped behaving like the Jesus of software.
KRKahn87 on Tue, 23rd Mar 2010 5:04 pm
Perhaps you enjoy what you do, but who is to say your consumers enjoy your product? Are you making a profit from documentation and support only? If that’s the case who is to say you aren’t making a lousy product and promising stellar support?
zadigjaja on Tue, 23rd Mar 2010 6:01 pm
This is a very common naive criticism and sounds like you do not know what you are talking about by confusing open-source and free-software. I work for a company that mainly produces open source software, and believe me we are making money and I am being challenged with what I do.
KRKahn87 on Tue, 23rd Mar 2010 6:28 pm
That’s great Richard, hey let me ask you this: How am I supposed to feed my family in this open-source bullshit world you speak of? Writing really good documentation? Providing really good support at a high price? You’re such a bullshit artist.

its not a perfect world, but we gotta do what we can now don’t we? Its always the meeting of idealism of reality, there is no point in trying to be perfect or beating yourself up about not being perfect, just looking deep into your soul, doing what you can in every moment (when do what you can, what else could you do?) and seeking happiness there and expressing the ‘true you’ with as little resitance as possible; much freedom and love, QM

thank you for answering, i totally love that philosophy and will do everything to spread it, there is a lot of fear though in surrendering the comfort of secure job and not knowing when and if the money will come, it takes guts, good job mr stallman, also the ending is beautiful

Safari is just like Internet Explorer, but for Apple. =S
Mac is built on a Unix base, but they decided to make it a proprietary system.
But Mac isn’t as bad than Microsoft. Mac has invented the box interface (windows under Microsoft windows), the task bar, etc. Everything that Microsoft has ever done is stealing everyone’s work and slightly improve it a little bit.

I call it GNU, cause Stallman do more for Linux than Linus Torvald

Free software? open source? Microsoft has that as well. Its called hacking (or should I say cracking) of Microsoft products. Piracy is part of Microsoft’s open source community. As Stallman says, “providing support in their area of expertise”
